The hardest part of spelling in the English language is that we have so many variations of how to make each sound. This resource is designed to show students the common alternate spellings for each sound. Use in conjunction with our Alternative Spelling Build a Word Cards!

• Other Vowels/Diphthongs (or, air, er, ow, oy, ar & oo sounds)
• Consonants (b, c, d, f, g, h, j, l, m, n, p, q, r, s, t, v, w, x, y, & z sounds)

*Please take note of accent variations especially in the short vowels and ‘ar’ sound.
Each spelling variation is 1/3 of an A4 page. If you don’t have the space, print the posters 2 per page and the headings at full size.
