Sometimes it’s as simple as moving where the activity is! And it completely changes how it’s being used or even, how the kids are engaging with it!! Sometimes we can get used to seeing a resource in a particular way (same for the kids) and it means that they feel it can be “boring” or “too easy”, so by changing how you engage with the activity or even where it is sitting, it can create a whole new aspect of play for your kids!!
Instead of these cards being on the table with their matching boards I put them in some rainbow rice! Some other fun places to put them…
🌈 on the floor
🌈 on the wall… this one is lots of fun!
🌈 give them to another student so they have to find their matches to make a team
🌈 outside (on the playground, hidden in places for a scavenger hunt)
🌈 inside hidden in places.. as above
This also means that I can use the same activity over and over again which means less prep time for me and the kids know the basics of what they need to do so less explaining and cognitive load… winning!
Would these be the perfect resource for your class or home? Download the sorting mats bundle and start exploring the possibilities!!
