Here’s 5 books to read today with your kids. Why? Not only do they come with story stone sets 😉 BUT they have benefits to reading them (let me explain!)
Rosie’s Walk
This one is perfect for positional language. And really allows you to examine the varied positions in which Rosie ends up in! Extend on this by getting the kids to act out the different positions too! View the options to buy here!!
Wombat Stew
This one allows the kids to really think and reflect on the method behind creating a stew – this can then be extended into a cooking lesson or even a bit of dramatic play as they act out making the stew as if they were the dingo! View the options here!!
We’re Going on a Bear Hunt
Amazing for the positional language too! BUT I love that this one also includes obstacles to go through – again something that you can definitely act out with the kids as you walk around the home or classroom/playground! The other things that I love about this is that it opens up the discussion around how the bear might be feeling in the end. Grab the ready made story stones here and make your own story stones and word wall here!
Possum Magic
What I love most about this one, is that they travel around Australia and eat varied foods. This is great to build on their memory (see who can remember what is where!) and what each food item brings back again. Download here your own make your set!!
Dear Zoo
Get the kids to write their own letters to the zoo, asking for a pet (and build on their awareness of writing a letter!) And post them, just for fun to see if you get a reply! The other thing that I love to explore is the ways that each animal is described, encourage the kids to think of a different word that they might use! AND finally, match up the animal with their parcel. Order your ready made set here!
Books have so much to value, and it’s often so much more than the literacy and language that is being developed and built on while they are being read.
Which of these 5 books will you be reading today?! And don’t forget to that these can be made into story stones or you can grab them pre-made!
